EXTRACTED RECORDS

Steps for acquiring extracted records for the Church.

•         1.  The Church acquires permission for filming.

•         2. Records are filmed and sent to SLC.

•         3. Films copied and stored in vault.

•         4. Copies of film sent to Stake Leader

•         5. Stake Leader sends to Ward Leader then members who volunteer to read a film and enter the information into a computer extraction program at home or at the FHC.

•         6. Information is audited at Ward Level, then Stake level and then to SLC for a final audit.

•         7. Information is then entered into the IGI by batch numbers and also sent to temples for ordinance work to be done.

IGI

•         familysearch.org is the only place that ordinance work can be found at home on the internet. In order to access ordinance you will need a user ID and password.  Extracted records can be found in the IGI and Hugh Wallis website search engine.

•         Do you have your Family Search user ID and password?

BATCH NUMBERS

•         Batches beginning with: A (or F, I, L, T etc. are patron submitted batches.

•         http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#PageTitle

•         This site tells about extraction batch numbers.

•         Note: Extraction records are limited to Birth, Christening, and Marriages for now.

Familysearch.org

•         Click Advance Search and Sign on

•         Click IGI (found to Left on screen)

•         Enter Name and Region only

•              First and last name if common name. Use just the last name if uncommon.

–          Example: Bentley in England is like smith in US so I have to put a first name with Bentley. Luibrand is uncommon so I can use just the last name and region and search.

•          From the list look for christenings

•         Click on a name.

•         Scroll down to messages: You are looking for extracted birth or christening not submitted by…

•         Under messages: will be sources and a batch number. Clicking on the batch number will bring you back to the search screen with the batch number filled in. Then you can fill in a last name, search, and find all the persons with that last name in that batch. If you leave the name blank and click search you will get all names that were submitted in that batch.

•         By searching each name it is possible to find an entire family. I have found that the children’s baptism is done but the parents are not sealed and the children are not sealed to the parents.

•         If the source call number is another color other than black you can click on the number and get the source of the batch.
