Break up a large PAF file into smaller PAF files.
Step 1: Create
the GEDCOM
Open your PAF file (If it is not on the hard drive, it
must be saved to the hard drive first.)
From your pedigree screen highlight the ancestor you want
to begin a new PAF file with.
Now Click File,
then click Export
NEXT SCREEN (EXPORT)
Under Export To, (left side) PAF 5 will default to PAF 5
Under Include,(Right side) select the additional information you want to include or exclude for the individuals you will be selecting.
Click: partial (bottom left corner)
Click: select (right hand bottom)
NEXT SCREEN (Select Individual Screen)
Highlight the individual you want to begin with, this should be the person you selected from the pedigree chart..
In the Relationship Filter, select those you want to include with him from the drop-down list. (Ancestors)
Click the Select button
NEXT SCREEN
Change number of descendents to 1. This will include the family of your selected ancestor and click OK. The Select Individual Screen will reappear and will show the number of individuals that have been selected. (This number appears above the OK at the bottom)
Click OK
NEXT SCREEN
The export screen will reappear. Click Export.
NEXT SCREEN export GEDCOM file as
Give the file a name (suggestion: the chosen ancestor name) and click: export (bottom right)
You have now created
your GEDCOM file and it is time to make a place to put the file.
Step 2: Create a new PAF
file to import your GEDCOM into.
Your original PAF file will reappear (don’t panic) go to FILE---NEW and create a new PAF file [in my documents]
With the ancestor name you have previously chosen. Click save (bottom right)
NEXT SCREEN
Fill in the preference screen with your information and click OK
NEXT SCREEN will be a blank PAF screen (again don’t panic) click FILE then click IMPORT
NEXT SCREEN import GEDCOM file; highlight the GEDCOM file you just created and click import. A small screen will appear in the middle and click OK.
A GEDCOM log screen will appear. (Look it over and then click the red X (top right hand corner)
Now you have a new PAF file. Double check the top banner to see that this is the new ancestor PAF file and that it is located in my documents.
